Agenda
- FHIR Shorthand and AU Base (Brett)
- Transition AU Base to R5? (Rob) - and R4 status
- Profile AU Sex Assigned At Birth (Rob)
- Observation.code.coding:loincSexAtBirth.code is fixed to 76689-9; which has the definition: "The sex that was assigned and recorded on the birth certificate at the time of an individual's birth." Does it matter that it is specific to the birth certificate?
- Observation.effective[x] is constrained to only have datatype dateTime (excluding Period, Timing and instant). On face value, this would make sense, but seeking verification given HL7 AU's AU Base principle to provide guidance not constraints.
- Observation.performer has no constraints in the profile, but the core spec allows the performer to be Practitioner | PractitionerRole | Organization | CareTeam | Patient | RelatedPerson. Consider constraining out Patient - or is that overkill?
- FHIR SMART App Launch - documentation and connectathon (and connectathons in general)?
Notes
FHIR Shorthand?
Mark Kramer has done a test conversion of our base IG to FSH and see how that goes - Brett will be further investigating using this tooling
Concerns discussed around the round-tripping of the formats to/from FHIR Structure Definitions and if there are losses with the format.
The CSIRO Primary Care IG is all built using FSH (Jim Steel editing)
This would/could create a tooling issue with Forge/FSH
There is syntax highlighting for VSCode (but still a text editor)
AU Base R4 status
Mainly QA remaining for a release
ADHA been working with childhealth to hopefully come into R4? - This still needs cleanup (STU3) but highly desirable to bring forward to R4
715 assessments also being worked on as assessments (leading into SMART profile)
Intent to get the base IG QA "clean" of errors and create the snapshot ASAP.
Moving to the generic template approach will be after this release
Brian Postlethwaite, Brett Esler and Rob Eastwood will do these updates
Note: Some of the PD extensions have been moved into the au-base (not as required)
Target this month!
AU PD R4 status
As above for AU-PD R4 to get a snapshot
Target this month!
AU R5?
The progress of HL7 International has pushed out further, and won't be this year. Possibly Jan/May next year.
This is the real reason for the delay - so many changes that haven't been applied.
FHIR Connectathon?
- When? Who?
- FHIR SMART App Launch
- Opthalmology
- R4 snapshot
- Virtual or Hybrid? (Brian recommend virtual)
- Put out an email to request interest
- End of July for the event?
Profile AU Sex Assigned At Birth (Rob)

The words "recorded on the birth certificate" are problematic (and are also included on the core spec too http://build.fhir.org/patient.html#gender)
This topic will carry over to the next meeting.
